When you are tying to make sure your video has the best possible Thumbnail you can unintentionally sacrifice the content of your video by being too focused on the thumbnail spots. If you get accurate numbers for the thumbnail positions in your movie, you really don’t need to change much of your content to meet the goal of a great video thumbnail.
We have been able to insert very quick flashes of a still graphic and let that be used to create the video thumbnails by the various services to which we upload our videos. The length of the still shots we insert are only 5 frames long. That is long enough for the hosting sites to see it, but not so long as to be too distracting to the viewer.
