Google Plus Events are really cool. They integrate so many different things that Google offers us it is amazing to see them at work. Think of an Event as an invitation to something cool. Some ideas of what an Event can be are:

• Invitations to a Party
• Invitations to a Wedding
• Invitations to a Product Launch
• Invitations to a Store Opening
• Invitations to an Online Meeting (aka Hangout)

Google Plus Events – Much more than Invitations
Google Plus Events are much, much more than just invitations, but we just don’t have the time to cover all that they can be here. In their most basic form, they act as an invitation, but there are things that can happen before, during and after the actual Event – all online inside the Event’s Page on Google Plus. That extra activity also ‘enters’ into the G+ stream which shows off the activity that takes place in the Event page, but I said I did not have time now to cover all that, so…

Let’s take a look at one of the most useful uses of a Google Plus Event: the Hangout Invitation. These have been a pain until now. You needed to get everyone on board and ready to make Hangouts work (especially if there were more than 2 people involved). It got tricky to know when it was to take place and where to go to be sure you joined in at the proper time.

When you wanted to get a big crowd to watch (the public) then it got even crazier. Now Events are changing all that for the better. They take care of all this where and when stuff for us. Used properly, everyone should show up at the proper time and in the proper place to watch & participate in Hangouts on Google Plus because of the magic of the Google Plus Event.

Google Plus Events Make Hangout Invitations a Breeze
This video will take you through the various steps in order to set up a Regular Hangout Invitation… Soon I’ll be writing up the steps to set up a HOA (Hangout on Air) that invites the Public to view it – which is pretty tricky – so we’ll start with the basics first.

Watch the video above and realize I had to cheat, the video shows that the event is ‘Private’ but in real life (had it not been a training video) it would tell you up top that the event is actually ‘Public’.

Google Plus Events – Use Video as Part of the Event
I strongly encourage you to use a short video as part of the Event Invitation! Video can really get people interested in ‘attending’ your event, so take advantage of the fact that you can add a YouTube URL into the invitation. The video above shows you how to get the extra fields to open up so you can add in your YouTube link.

The YouTube video then becomes embedded onto the Invitation… how cool is that!? An invitation that plays a teaser video! There will be more coming soon about using Events, like that actual steps needed to make a HOA Event that can Invite the Public to view it.
