Connecting Google+ Hangouts On Air to an Existing YouTube Channel.
If you already have your Valuable YouTube Channel set up and want to be sure that your HoA broadcast is showing there and is saved there, you will want to read this ‘how to’ post to make sure you are doing the HoA’s properly.
If you are willing and able to start the process from scratch (start with a brand new Google Account and a brand new YouTube Channel) then read about how to work with Google Plus Business page, Hangouts On Air & YouTube Integration.
Connecting Google+ Hangouts On Air (HoA) to an Existing YouTube Channel
If you are like many of us and want to make your Google+ HoA broadcasts and saved videos end up in the proper YouTube channel, you may be getting a bit confused. I know I was when I tried to understand the Google Help Docs online.
Eventually with the help of some helpful Google+ Community Managers and their HoA team members, I was able to work out the needed understanding on how to make this work. I even was able to help out a fellow Google Plusser who was convinced that he was never going to be able to make it work!
Connecting Google Plus Hangouts on Air with YouTube
How do you do it right? Well here is the bottom line… I’ll start with the fix then back up and explain how to get there in case you want the fuller explanation.
How you sign in Makes All the Difference!
You can actually make the Video from a HoA session show up in different YouTube accounts. You simply need to sign into Google Plus using the same email ID that you use to sign into the desired target YouTube account.
Assuming that the email account used to sign into Google+ is authorized to be a Manager or is the Owner of the +Page, then you simply move on to the +Page and start the Hangouts on Air session. Because the email login is also tied to the YouTube account, the video will stream there and will end up there once the HoA is finished.
What if the YouTube channel you want to use as the landing place for the HoA recorded video is not authorized by the +Page to be a manager? Then you have got to get authorized as a manger, and then you can make it work.
Connecting Google+ Hangouts on Air with Google+ Profiles
Using +Pages allows you to assign the proper email ID that is used by YouTube to also be used by the +Page.
If you want to broadest the HoA from a +Profile, then the only way that video will be properly connected to a particular YouTube channel is if the email ID used to log into the +Profile is the same as the email ID used to log into the desired YouTube channel.
I have been told that even if the HoA video ends up in the wrong YouTube channel, as long as you can log into that YouTube channel, you can download a MPG version of the video and then upload it to your desired YouTube channel (and I was told the quality would not suffer … however I have my doubts re. the quality issue).
I have written another post that walks you through much more detail on how to set up a new YouTube Account and tie that to a +Page in Google Plus…. click here to see how it is done: Google Plus Business page, Hangouts On Air & YouTube Integration.
Below is a graphic that shows how the various elements we have discussed in this post need to be connected:

I am responsible for a company’s advertising. I am trying to set up a YouTube channel so we can attach videos to their website. I got a company-specific gmail address. But I inadvertently set up the system as PERSONAL. So MY name appears, not the client’s company name. How can I fix this? Do I need another gmail address? I think I read that if I delete my YouTube account, the gmail address can no longer be used for another YouTube channel. I find this Google stuff difficult to follow and nearly impossible to fix, once you screw up. And nowhere to turn for direction. I need to learn this because I have 4 more clients who want to do the same thing. I read your post but I need ALL the elements (email, YouTube, Google account, +Pages, +Profile, etc) outlined in sequentially numbered steps without a lot of verbage. Thanks, Randy
@Randy, Thanks for the comment… Much of what you are asking for is included in my various posts… perhaps not packaged as neatly as you would like for your specific needs. What you seem to need is a 1-on-1 consultation to address your specific needs. I can do that with you if you like. Please use the ‘contact us‘ form here on the site or contact me on Google+
Thanks for this post. My question is this… I have a video production tutorial site called Web Video Chefs which has a YouTube Channel. When I went to log into G+ using it, G+ asked me for a first and last name and said that it would be the name across all of the Google accounts. I would rather keep the name webvideochefs as it is now. Is there a way around this? My partner and I would like our Live Hangouts to be archived on the http://www.youtube.com/user/webvideochefs account. We have a Web Video Chefs page set up which is a brand page that I have admin rights to.
Thanks for any insights.
Amani
Amani, I’ve got insights for you… contact me on G+ and we can talk about what you need to do: http://goo.gl/9bAxY
@ Brock… This article focuses more on the YouTube channel that already existed… so there should not be any conflict with building any NEW Profile IDs on this post… the other post, when we start from scratch, has more of an issue with what you mention here. That post is here: http://www.videoleadsonline.com/google-plus-business-page-hangouts-on-air-and-youtube-integration/
